ABOUT US
Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses
Who We Are
Reinstated in 2019, the Sacramento NAHN Chapter was re-established by alumni and students of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Though we are a smaller chapter we've had a strong impact in our community. NAHN participates in local efforts to increase the number of Hispanic folks in nursing through events such as Breaking Down Barriers and SHINES in collaboration with CCBNA.
Our Service
The National Association of Hispanic Nurses™ (NAHN) was founded in 1975 by Ildaura Muirllo-Rohde, PhD, RN, ND, FAAN since it was felt that ANA was not being responsive to the needs of Hispanic nurses. In 1976, the organization became the National Association of Spanish-Speaking/Spanish-Surnamed Nurses, which was renamed the National Association of Hispanic Nurses in 1979.
OUR MISSION
Advancing Health in Hispanic Communities
NAHN is now a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has 41 chapters in 23 states, three chapters in development, and 1917 members. NAHN holds an annual conference dedicated to exploring healthcare issues affecting the Hispanic population and proposing potential solutions. NAHN held its first Hispanic Health Policy Summit this year in Washington, D.C. dedicated to transforming healthcare policy and accelerating the pace of research. In 2022, the ANA issued a public apology for actions that negatively impacted nurses of color, harm they have caused, and perpetuating systemic racism.
Board of Directors
The mission of the Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is to advance the health in Hispanic communities and to lead, promote and advocate the educational, professional, and leadership opportunities for Hispanic nurses.
